Matter of the Minutes

Highlights from the April 25, 2007 Board Meeting
(Chamber Minutes Lag Approx. 1 Month)

  Fremont Bridge Approach (Art Brochet):

The Fremont Bridge will reopen to full four lanes of traffice in May. On Sat. June 2nd a reopening celebration will be held and sponsored by the Queen Anne and Fremont Chambers. Called the `Double Cross Delight,' the party will include live music, food, drink, trolls, dragons and an unshrouding of the Waiting for the Interurban statue back home again.

  Double-Cross:

The Chamber Board authorized a $500 match donation for advertising for the week preceding the `Double Cross' bridge opening celebration.

  Fremont Outdoor Cinema (Andrew McMasters):

Fremont Outdoor Cinema is preparing for it's upcoming season, which will run for 12 nights this year (going thru September). There are plans to invite Al or Tipper Gore here for a showing of the film `An Inconvenient Truth.'

  Sonics/Storm Tickets (Kenzie Little):

We discussed raising funds for the Chamber by selling Sonics games tickets with group ticket pricing.

  Treasurer's Report (Jeanne Muir):

Michael Jerrett has been seeking more Premier memberships (at $ 500) which has contributed to a membership income increase. Jeanne requested that a chart of accounts be developed for the Fremont Chamber by an accountant and that funding be authorized to pay said accountant. A motion was made to allocate a maximum amount of $500.00 to pay for a non- profit accountant to draw up the new chart of accounts. Motion approved. The treasurer's report was presented by Jeanne and approved.

  Executive Director's Report (Michael Jerrett):

Michael reported fifty people attended the April Chamber Luncheon and it went well. There has been a second meeting between SDOT, WDOT and Adobe regarding the Aurora bridge life safety issues. Another meeting will be scheduled with more stakeholders involved. One idea being considered is to perhaps close the bridge to pedestrian access for six months to see if it improves safety. A discussion among the Board followed.

  Oktoberfest (Phil Megenhardt):

Oktoberfest is the Chamber's main income generating fund-raiser. It brings 90,000 people into the neighborhood and 20,000 into the beer gardens. Phil encouraged Chamber members to get involved and promote this major Fremont event. Oktoberfest is moving to a new venue on Canal Street between Phinney and First. This site will increase the capacity to 60,000 in the beer gardens. Phil shared a demographic chart on the event from 1997 to 2006 showing that young professionals aged in the 20-40's, evenly split between males and females and with sizable disposable incomes, are the main attendees. It remains a goal of both Bold Hat Productions and the Chamber to keep Oktoberfest fun, safe, and profitable.

  Marketing /Membership (Jessica Fraidenberg) :

The marketing group is looking into a
developing a new website. `Graffiti' is the company recommended to do a new Fremont Chamber website. The new site will:
- provide more services for and links to neighborhood businesses,
- be more searchable and user-friendly - have more back-end accessibility so multiple people can add and remove things from the site

Next month a vote will be taken on whether to contract with Graffiti. A discussion took place about `top level controls' of the Chamber website and who would be granted this level of access along with John Nordstrand. Marko brought up the question of who from the Chamber side should have `day to day' say on what goes on the website. John Houlihan moved that the Chamber establish a chain of command that the policy decisions for the website are made at the board level and that implementation and control of the site and it's contents is under the control of the Executive Director. Motion passed.

Ambassador Troll Refurbishment (Jon Hegeman) :

The paper mache troll needs to be refurbished to be made weather -proof. The price tag is around $ 6,000 for materials. The sculptor would be responsible for upkeep and maintenance and use it at her exhibits but it will remain in Fremont for our usage at Fremont events.

  Directory (Jessica Fraidenberg):

A Fremont Business directory will come out this year. The deadline is August. The directory looks like a small phone book.

Remember! Chamber Board Meetings take place at 8 a.m. on the last Wednesday of each month at History House (790 N 34th). We'd love to see you there!
